It’s Time for Transitions

Written by Admin | Dec. 18, 2020

This is the time of year when we often think about transitions. We look forward to a New Year and all the changes it might bring. For 2021, it will be especially important for most of us to start a transition back to living life the way we did before 2020 hit with all of its challenges.

Our homes became our refuge: places of comfort and safety. But now we can begin to dream about a transition to all kinds of new adventures and new ways to open our homes again to welcome friends and family back.

From Seclusion to Celebrations

Many of us have spent the past several months concentrating on how to make the most of staying home with our immediate family members. We wanted our living spaces to be comfy because that’s where we’ve been spending our time. We needed our work-at-home spaces to be flexible enough for corporate video conferences and the kids’ online math classes yet provide some quiet space for concentrating on work.

But now you can start to think about welcoming friends and family back into your home. You’ll want an open kitchen where guests can gather to chat while meal preparation is happening. They can pull up a bar stool to a large island that has its own beverage fridge.

Having a finished basement is perfect for entertaining, whether it’s watching a big game, hosting book club, or having a big sleepover birthday party. A wet bar and a full bath in the basement make the space even more inviting for a celebration or for out-of-town house guests.

From Indoors to Outdoors

You’re probably anxious to get outdoors again, and what better way than to add a sunroom or screened porch that will provide a transitional space from your kitchen or great room to your backyard. Grilling on the deck or patio is perfectly complemented by a three-season room where your guests can escape when a summer thunderstorm pops up or they want a break from the sun and the bugs. Even adding more windows or a large patio door that folds out of the way will help connect those gathering inside to the great outdoors. What a breath of fresh air that would be!
