Are you thinking about ways to freshen up your kitchen or bathrooms? Do you need some inspiration? We’ve got just the thing! The 2017 Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) provided a showcase for the latest kitchen and bath trends on the horizon. This annual event, sponsored by the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA), is an opportunity for remodeling professionals, custom home builders, interior designers, and others to be inspired by the exciting new products introduced by more than 500 companies representing the industry’s leading brands.
KBIS presents not only the latest styles, but also exciting new products and technologies that help make the rooms where you spend so much time the perfect fit for your lifestyle.
“Black is the new stainless” just might be this year’s theme in the world of appliances, with the introduction of this new finish by many appliance manufacturers. Frigidaire Gallery has launched its Smudge-Proof™ Black Stainless Steel collection that resists fingerprints and makes clean-up a breeze. As a stylish new alternative to the usual stainless finish, it’s warm, neutral, and versatile enough for any kitchen décor. It also solves the biggest complaint homeowners have about stainless steel – those annoying smudges!
Weathered wood and soft metallic patinas have been cropping up for all kinds of surfaces in the home. This year we found even more variety in the “well-worn’ category with concrete tiles ranging from industrial style to softer, more subtle looks. The random imperfections in concrete tiles give them a natural beauty for walls, and their heat resistance makes them well-suited for fireplace surrounds.
For the bath, Aston’s completely frameless shower door, tub and enclosure collection includes new frosted glass models that will fit any size bath layout, from 22” to 76” in width. Quartz – the increasingly popular counter surface – is now available for sinks. The durable composite material is easy to clean and has excellent scratch, impact, and heat resistance. Elkay’s Quartz Luxe series offers 16 models in six colors.
If you’re searching for a new look for your kitchen or bathroom tile, you can think “outside the box” this year. Arizona Tile goes beyond the usual square with lots of unique shapes for floors, walls, and backsplashes to make your room stand out from the crowd. Hexagon, basket weave, herringbone, penny round, quatrefoil, and arabesque are just some of the new mosaic styles available, in a wide selection of colors and in stone, porcelain, glass, metallic, and mirror options.
How smart should a house be? If you’re of the opinion that the smarter a home is, the better, then we have some new ideas for you to try: a range hood that retracts to the ceiling, a fridge that shows what’s inside without opening the door, and appliances that “talk” to your Amazon Alexa.
Would you love a cooktop on your kitchen island but don’t like the look of a bulky range hood in the middle of the room? Faber has introduced a collection of range hoods that retract when not in use. The Oceana is a stainless steel hood/chandelier combo, with a distinctive wave cut-out design and integrated LED pendant lights. The 15-inch wide range hood can be lowered during cooking and, with a push of a button, is easily retracted back into the chandelier’s shade.
GE Appliances has added Amazon Alexa skill sets to a broad range of its connected appliances, including refrigerators, dishwashers, wall ovens, ranges, laundry and more. With voice-activated controls, you can preheat the oven or check on the internal temperature of a roast while it’s cooking. LG also offers appliances connected with Alexa, so you can use voice commands to find recipes, start a shopping list, or use Amazon Dash to reorder supplies. Bosch Dishwashers can even be connected to Amazon Dash to automatically reorder detergent before you run out!
