Project Description: Major kitchen remodel including increasing the size of the kitchen and combining rooms for an even more expansive feeling. Rooms involved included the original kitchen, dining room, sun room, and breakfast nook.
Project Considerations: Our client loves cooking and very much wanted a large expansive kitchen with lots of natural light. A kitchen in which she would enjoy cooking and had the type of work space and storage she desired. With two young children who like to do crafts and color, she wanted a space that allowed her to be with them while still having space to cook. She also enjoys spending time with her family.
Part of the reason the clients loved the house was the wooded property it was on and were looking for a way to incorporate the backyard into the space.
Project Solution: This project started with our designer spending a lot of time with our clients to find out what they didn’t like about their current kitchen and what they envisioned for their space and wanted to accomplish. We also talked with them about how the rooms would be used (cooking, eating, entertaining, homework, etc.) and by how many people. The client wanted a timeless yet modern looking space that included lots of different textures and finishes. Our client liked both modern and transitional styles of design, which we incorporated into this project.
The goal was to increase the kitchen’s actual size, give it a more open feeling and allow our client to cook while allowing the other family member enough space to be doing their own projects. To accomplish this desire to enlarge the kitchen we removed a number of walls and increased doorways.
To really showcase the backyard the windows on the exterior wall were increased. Cabinetry was left off this wall to allow the natural beauty of the trees to really take center stage.
