Our clients wanted to update and upgrade their old kitchen and dining room.
Our solution was this open plan kitchen and dining area. Because the home had a walled-off kitchen and walled-off dining area, we first had to remove the wall that separated the two rooms. And because we removed a wall, we also had to sand the floor down to bare wood and refinish it so it looked like new.
We moved the location of the sink to be under a double window that allows the homeowners a beautiful view when they use the sink. The sink also features a filtered water dispenser with the filter hidden under the sink.
We upgraded the kitchen with a Thermador gas cooktop that required we run gas lines to the kitchen as the old kitchen had an electric stove. The other appliances for this remodel are all stainless steel KitchenAid products.
We used countertops of White Spring granite and a backsplash made from white glass tiles. These contrast nicely with the dark wood custom Prevo kitchen cabinets we used. We designed the cabinets to go to the ceiling providing maximum storage and giving the kitchen a more dramatic look.
For storage, the cabinets beside the built-in wall oven and microwave include a good size pantry with easy to use pull out draws. All the cabinets have similar features that make them easy to use.
The combination open kitchen and dining room is bright and airy using natural lighting from windows and door windows, as well as, under cabinet task lighting and new recessed ceiling lights. The dining room has a crystal chandelier. All the lighting uses energy efficient and dimmable LED bulbs.
The crown molding on the cabinets and the dining room were custom milled to match the crown molding in other parts of the home.
