This bright and sunny kitchen remodeling project is in Alexandria, Virginia. It is part of a major multi-room, multi-floor, home addition remodeling project.
The original kitchen was small and in another part of the home. We moved the kitchen and opened it up to the family room. By moving the majority of the kitchen to the home addition part of the home, we were able to triple its size. We changed the location of and replaced some of the original kitchen windows with new windows in locations that worked better for the new kitchen layout. This kitchen and two-story addition required removing an existing load-bearing wall, which we replaced with a hidden engineered support beam. We used a multi-height ceiling design to accentuate the eating area of the kitchen and allow for hanging decorative lighting over the island in a more elegant manner.
White Prevo custom cabinets were used for both the wall cabinet and island. Some cabinets have solid doors and some glass doors. Energy-efficient LED lights are used in the undercabinet lighting, in the glass door cabinets, as well as the ceiling’s recessed and decorative lighting.
The island has a white farm sink and dishwasher on one side and an eating area on the family room side of the island. The countertops are all Virginia Mist leathered granite.
The kitchen has a six-burner Thermador gas stove with an oven and vent hood. The backsplash above the stove includes a functional and decorative tile backsplash niche. There is also an undercabinet accessible microwave and a wine cooler in the lower cabinet area.
