Your family undoubtedly spends a lot of time in the kitchen, so when you remodel it, you want it to match your lifestyle and reflect your sense of style.

Kitchen cabinetry is a very large part of how your kitchen looks and works. But just as you don’t want your grandmother’s kitchen, you don’t have to have her cabinets either. You have more choices than ever in custom cabinets and how they define your kitchen space.

Try the Two-Tone Look

If you research what style of kitchen cabinet is popular today, you’ll find that the white kitchen is everywhere. It’s a terrific look and one that’s probably not going to go away any time soon. But if that’s not really what you love, there are lots more color choices in stained, glazed and painted cabinetry, in addition to natural wood or white finishes.

Not only can you choose from a variety of colors, we’re also seeing mix-and-match “tuxedo” style cabinetry, with upper wall cabinets in one color and base cabinets in another. Try white wall cabinets with elegant black or a pop of bright green for the base cabinets. Or maybe soft gray on top and navy blue for the lower cabinets. A neutral color can be anything you want that fits your personal style. Pick something you’ll love to live with!

Open for Business

Many home chefs love the look and functionality of a professional-style kitchen. And that means lots of open shelving on the walls. It’s the ultimate in food prep efficiency, with all your pots, pans, and other tools in sight and within reach.

Your Kitchen Under Glass

Glass-front kitchen cabinets aren’t new, in fact, they evoke the coziness of a farmhouse kitchen. But they also look fresh in today’s kitchens that often pack cabinetry from floor to ceiling to get the most storage space possible. If you don’t want to put EVERYTHING on display, a row of glass-front doors across the top wall cabinets will lighten up the room. Or outfit one cabinet, top to bottom, with glass doors for the look of a china cabinet.

Windows? Yes!

In the past, it was the norm to have one small window over the sink in an otherwise closed-off kitchen. Today’s open-floor-plans invite the addition of a row of large windows in the kitchen instead of wall cabinets. Bring the great outdoors inside! We love the look, but it requires some extra space planning, so you’ll have all the storage room you need in the kitchen layout. Consider adding a walk-in pantry, butler’s pantry or an extra-large island to give you the room you need to keep the counters free of clutter. You’ll also want to make sure you don’t have any “black hole” corner cabinets where things go in, but don’t ever come out. New options for fitted corner cabinets make sure every inch is useful storage space.
