Finished Basement Ideas
Every member of the family would like to have a space to call their own, somewhere they can kick back and relax. When it comes to remodeling with the man of the house in mind, a finished basement is a great place to start. But when you think of the basement, if you only think “man cave,” you should know that a “cave” isn’t what every guy wants and it certainly doesn’t have to be the only direction for remodeling with a more masculine style. Any room in the house that’s meant to be a comfortable retreat just needs to be a space that is clean, simple, and efficient, with fussiness left behind.
The Finished Basement
Starting with the obvious, you probably will want to make room for a large flat screen TV with surround sound (and maybe a gaming system). The basement is also the perfect place for heavy exercise equipment, but after that, there are so many other interests and hobbies that deserve a special place. How about a wine cellar, a large computer desk with room for 3 monitors, or cabinets made to display a trophy or sports memorabilia collection?
The Bathroom. Who wouldn’t love a roomy shower with multiple shower heads, steam, digital temperature controls, and a built-in bench after a tough workout or just a long day at the office? Keep surfaces clutter-free with lots of storage room (and charging outlets) for a shaver, beard trimmer and electric toothbrush. A built-in laundry bin helps keep dirty clothes and towels off the floor. (And a flat screen TV wouldn’t be a bad idea either.)
The Closet. Customizing a closet means more than just plenty of room to hang suits and shirts. This would be the perfect spot for a closet specially fitted for storing golf clubs, photography equipment or fishing gear. Drawers, hooks, shelves, and cubbies will also help keep gym clothes, shoes, sweats, and t-shirts in order.
Game Time. Have you ever hosted poker night or a Super Bowl party? If you’ve never had a good place in your home to welcome friends for a night out, a finished basement is perfect.
