Home for the Holidays
Holiday parties, gifts, lots of good food, visits with friends and family… you have so many pleasant things on your mind this month! But if 2019 will be the year to finally re-do the kitchen, update the bath, or create a great new master suite, December is also a good time to start thinking about your remodeling project.

As you’re welcoming friends, family, and kids home from school, imagine seeing your home through their eyes. Chances are you’ll become aware of things that really should be fixed or updated – but that you’ve grown so used to seeing that you don’t even notice them anymore. This might include a shower stall that’s well past its prime, sagging shelves, or leaky toilets. Your wish list might even include a better solution for out-of-town guests than an air mattress in the living room.
As you’re cooking, think about what doesn’t work in terms of storage, layout, lighting, appliances, and how your kitchen looks and works. Then imagine what your kitchen would be like with some of those new ideas you’ve seen online: large windows, amazing organizers, better lighting, and beautiful new appliances. And more counter space!
As you’re entertaining, pay attention to how rooms are used. Is the living room empty, but the kitchen overflowing with people? Think about how your home feels, too. Is it comfortably warm…or are you cranking up the thermostat just so guests won’t feel the chilly drafts from worn-out windows?

Remodeling and renovation jobs have many steps – everything from feasibility studies and design concepts to drawings, selections, permits, inspections and much more. Getting a head start is the key to stress-free remodeling. Having a good amount of lead time helps assure the project ticks smoothly on the timeline – and budget – you’re expecting.

With your home front and center during the holidays, you’ll not only have a chance to think about new things you’d love to have, you can also make note of what needs updating, what frustrates you, and what simply no longer works for your family and your lifestyle.
By the time you ring in the New Year, you can have a very good list of specific things you’d like to change and a big-picture vision of how your remodeled home should look and feel. Then we can talk about how to make it all happen in 2019. We promise it’ll be great!
